Limit Number of Front Page Excerpts

I am trying to figure out how to limit the number of excerpts/posts that show up on my front page. I have it set to 5 in Wordpress settings under Reading but it is not reflecting on the site.
Is there a change I am missing in customize or a CSS code I can use?
