How to modify theloopphp to allow blog posts on static page

This should be simple except for I am having a little bit of a hard time understand the custom loop (theloop.php) and why it is doing what it is doing.

So I have a static page set as the home page. On that home page it has the slider at top and then the container at the bottom that has the text from that static page only.

I have created a small child theme so that I can modify some of the php files without messing up the main theme file. I already have a custom css file pulling in for this page only and want to also do the following but unsure what to do with theloop.php.

Instead of in the content area having the text just from this page, I want it instead to have the blog posts from a specific category.

I am pretty sure this requires an additional loop but not sure where to put it. Thanks.
