Footnote issues

So I've tried several footnote wordpress plugins and I've tried directly adding footnote html language in my page. Each time I click on a footnote, the internal page link works correctly and drops me to the footnote at the bottom of the page. Then a few seconds later a 404 error page pops up.

I've deactivated plugins, looked at my permalinks and checked what I can and nothing makes a difference. Is there something in this theme that is causing the 404 redirect?

Thanks for the help.
A 404 error is an HTTP status code that means that the page you were trying to reach on a website couldn't be found on your server. Probably, your plugin generates a wrong link.
All the footnote plugins (like simple footnotes, etc) had the same problem when trying to jump to the bottom of the same page. I tried nearly every footnote plugin for Wordpress. They would go to the footnote at the bottom of the page...then a second or two later the 404 error would show. I believe something in the theme is overriding the html language for a jump within a page.

I finally created another page called "endnotes" and did the html myself for each footnote. Clicking the footnote number on the page would then go to the Endnote page I created. Jumping to another page works fine...just can't jump within a page for a footnote without the 404 error.
Probably, this plugin is not compatible with our theme.
