Custom menu in widget areas

I have a custom menu widget in widget area. I use it to go to specific pages. Let's suppose that I am on page X. If I go to the widget area and click on a link to page X, nothing happen, that is, the menu is still visible, whereas I would expect that the banner appears with the article below. Any idea why?

It is really difficult to understand. If you click on page "X" when you are on this page - what are you going to see when you click the link to the current page? What is wrong?
